Quick actions by Tampa police on patrol saved the life of a boy choking on a small tomato when they were flagged down and swiftly dislodged the vegetable from the child's throat.

Flagged-down Florida police officers saved the life of a toddler choking on a tomato last month.

The rescue happened just before 6 p.m. April 24 as Tampa police officers were on patrol when they were approached by a man about a choking boy, WTSP-TV reports. The child had been eating a tomato when he began choking.

One of the officers quickly put the toddler on his knees and struck his back repeatedly. After several pats on the back, the tomato became dislodged from his throat.
